Critical Incident Stress
Debriefing
( CISD )
TrailMed Wilderness Medicine
The stress of witnessing or helping assist in a backcountry accident or medical emergency can stay with a person for months, years and for some the rest of their lives. Every person handles the stress a little differently. It is important to identify these stress reactions as soon as possible as they can be devastating to ones health and family life. EMS and Search and Rescue teams routinely have CISD after a rescue with significantly injured patients.
We are trained to conduct CISD sessions and we share the background of being involved with backcountry and sports related injuries and accidents. We are able to relate to the persons or teams that were involved. Since we have the ability to understand the situation better than a standard CISD team that only deals with EMS or in hospital emergencies we found that the participants relate and share their experiences more openly. This creates a better environment and better overall outcomes for the participants.
TrailMed Wilderness Medicine offers free Critical Incident Stress Debriefings' for any personal or professional groups that feel it would be of benefit.**
